GARMENT WASHING

Often times, due to the age and wear of vintage clothing, it can become very delicate and often hard to wash. This will give you a good starting point on how to wash your vintage garments. We want you to enjoy your clothing as long as possible and NOT using a washing machine will help improve the longevity of your item. Hand washing and Oxiclean are your best friends!

GENERAL CARE:
Hand washing is the best way to clean your vintage clothing, specifically true vintage. 'True vintage' is typically defined as 70s and earlier. Often these materials can be very delicate and we recommend hand washing anything from this era.
1) It is important to first take measurements of your garment to ensure that it will not warp when drying.
2) We recommend filling a bucket or tub with warm water and your choice of detergent or Oxiclean to allow the garment to soak.
3) Very slowly place the garment into the soapy water and gently massage the fabric.
4) Allow the garment to soak for multiple hours or until you feel satisfied.
5) Drain the dirty water and gently rinse the garment to get the old water and soap out of the fibers. Be gentle and do not wring the garment out.
6) Lay the garment on a towel and roll it up to soak up the excess water.
7) Lay the garment flat, and warp it to the measurements you previously took. If you'd like the garment to fit differently, you can stretch and warp the material to your liking. However it drys is how it will fit.
8) Let it dry however long you think is necessary.

WOOL:
Wool/Cashmere/Mohair can be a difficult medium to maintain in all areas of clothing. The good news is that it does not need to be washed often and it is not uncommon for wool to be washed one time a season depending on wear. Wool can be very sensitive to temperature changes and friction, keep this in mind when handling it.
1) It is important to first take measurements of your garment to ensure that it will not warp when drying.
2) We recommend filling a bucket or tub with lukewarm water and your choice of detergent or Oxiclean to allow the garment to soak.
3) Very slowly place the garment into the soapy water and gently massage the fabric. Do not be to rough as friction between the fibers can cause the material to felt.
4) Allow the garment to soak for multiple hours or until you feel satisfied.
5) Drain the dirty water and gently rinse the garment in room temperature water to get the old water and soap out of the fibers. Be gentle and do not wring the garment out.
6) Lay the garment on a towel and roll it up to soak up the excess water.
7) Lay the garment flat, and warp it to the measurements you previously took.

STAIN REMOVAL:
When removing stains we typically use Oxiclean and a deep soak for the best results. Try to treat your garment as soon as possible so the stain doesn't cure into the fibers. Follow the instructions on the Oxiclean bottle and repeat the steps under 'GENERAL CARE' for soaking. Feel free to repeat until the stain is removed.
